Seven Witnesses (Matthew 27:45-54)

Summary

If you travel to Jerusalem, you can visit at least two locations that purport to be the site where Jesus was crucified. They both have a pretty good claim, and they are both fascinating sites to see. But the truth is, the location where Jesus died is far less important than the reason Jesus died. That is the matter before us in Matthew 27:45-54. In these verses, Matthew describes seven witnesses to the death of Jesus – three before He died and four immediately after. These witnesses help us better understand both Who Jesus is and why Jesus died.
