“The best way to find out if you can trust somebody,” Ernest Hemingway once wrote to a friend, “is to trust them.” We’re not completely sure what Hemingway meant, but the idea seems to be that if you really want to know if a person is trustworthy, the way to find out for sure is to trust that person with something important and see how it goes. A risky strategy, to be sure! But pretty effective, too.
In this next part of Matthew, we read about three occasions where the disciples have the opportunity to put what they’ve been learning about Jesus to work by trusting Him in three big areas of life. In this sermon, we examine these three stories and consider what they mean for us as we trust these areas of our own lives to Jesus today.
